The City of London, also known as the Square Mile, is the financial district of London and is the heart beat of the global economy.

This ancient core, from which the rest of London developed and has been the centre for trade and commerce since Roman settlement is giving its backing to SMEs across the capital city with its new partnership with the SME London Business Awards.

The prestigious awards are recognised as the most credible opportunity for SMEs to raise their profile and vision of the most hard working, industrious and enterprising SMEs in London.

As the governing body of the Square Mile, the City of London Corporation is dedicated to a vibrant and thriving City, supporting a diverse and sustainable London within a globally successful UK. The city generates nearly £70bn in economic output annually and contributes massively to the wider economy, with 98% of businesses in the Square Mile classed as SMEs.

In 2023, there were over one million SMEs in London, making it the region with the highest number of SMEs in the United Kingdom.

The City Corporation delivers a vast array of services for small businesses led by the Small Business Research + Enterprise Centre which acts as a central hub for SMEs and provides access to business advice, events, free workspace, and world renowned specialist business information.
