Whitings LLP is proud to support the Ely SME Business Awards
Among the most familiar and respected names in the area’s business circles, Whitings was founded in 1928 by Walter Whiting, who spotted an opportunity to meet the demands of the area’s thriving farming communities. Over 90 years on and this independent firm of chartered accountants is still firmly rooted in East Anglia, with 12 partners and nearly 150 staff in 8 key market town locations.
“We’re delighted to be involved with the inaugural Ely SME Business Awards,” says partner Ian Piper. “Everyone is working hard to bounce back after COVID. Across Fenland we have some long-established businesses plus a raft of exciting entrepreneurial start-ups and they are meeting these new challenges as they arise.”
Barbara Nicholas, private client tax partner at the Ely office, specialises in looking after the firm’s personal tax and trust clients. “We offer both compliance and tax planning services. We are not just form fillers – always looking to identity tax planning opportunities that can make all the difference to spendable income levels as a standard part of our service.”
The Ely office of Whitings is based in modern offices, in the thriving Angel Drove business park. Barbara, Ian, Amanda Newman and Nick Edgley head up a team of around 30 professional and administrative staff, who look after approximately 1,000 business, personal and not for profit clients.
Located just a stone’s throw from Ely’s magnificent Cathedral, King’s Ely is a leading independent co-educational day and boarding school built on a fascinating history stretching back over 1,000 years, making us one of the oldest schools in the world.
We serve the academic and pastoral needs of around 1,000 pupils from the age of 2 through to 18, with boarders from 7 years old. Whether a student shines in a classroom, in a laboratory, on a stage, on a pitch or on a mountainside, our school promises an abundance of opportunity for personal development, both academically and socially.
King’s Ely students achieve excellent GCSE and A Level results and each year they secure a place at their first-choice university or institution. However, our school is about much more than exam results and league tables. As reported in the Good Schools Guide, “King’s Ely turns out well rounded, likeable individuals who attain academically, but who also realise there is more to life than just results.”
There is a spirit which pervades our school, from King’s Ely Acremont and Nursery right the way through to King’s Ely Sixth Form. Visitors comment on it yet find it difficult to define. But it is there. It is evident in the way in which our staff and pupils conduct their daily lives at school. It inspires and cajoles them to do their best. It encourages them to be respectful and value others around them. It gives them space to grow but provides the boundaries within which to develop. This intangible ethos affords all students the opportunities to prepare for what lies ahead in an environment which is challenging, supportive and community oriented. It allows everyone the chance to discover where their individual skills, talents and ambitions lie. It fuels passion. It encourages the best of both working together and the confidence to explore and go it alone.
No other school’s pupils are the same and no two King’s Ely students are alike. They are, as a result, uniquely King’s. Book your personal visit or your place at one of our Open Events by calling our Admissions Team on (01353) 660707 or visiting www.kingsely.org
