National Business Women’s Awards:
With an impressive 24 different categories, there really is something for everyone to enter in the National Business Women’s Awards.
With everything from Best New Business and Community Champion to Influencer of the Year and International Woman’s Award, women from across the broad business spectrum will be able to find a category that resonates with them to enter.
Open to all businesswomen based in the UK, women can enter up to three categories, but make sure to read the requirements for each one as they may differ.
There’s never been a better time to start getting together your evidence and earning yourself a reward for your fantastic efforts over the last year.
However, make sure you don’t rush. Here are a couple of tips for making sure you get your entries just right.
- Pick the right category. This could mean different things to different people, where some may choose the category with the fewest entrants, and some may choose the one they want their business to be known for. There is no right or wrong here.
- Check the Ts & Cs. You don’t want to miss out because of a missed deadline or because of a technicality.
- Get specific. Make sure to read the criteria, picking out keywords to grab a judge’s attention.
- Tell a story. Take a judge on a journey, telling your story in the best way possible, bringing in plenty of facts, and emotion.
- Forget the word count (to a point.) Say what you need to, leaving nothing out, but if your entry is under the word count, don’t waffle to bring it up. Write as much as you need to, telling your story.
- Be clever. Don’t lie but pull out the best parts of your work and embellish them. Gone from £5k income to £15k? You’ve tripled your income! For example.
- Check your answers. Not only are you checking for spelling and grammar but also that you haven’t used any confusing jargon. Make it easy for judges.
- Get it checked. Send it to your staff, your clients and whoever else knows your business and the work you’ve done. You’ll be surprised what you may have missed (or haven’t shouted about enough.)
Follow these tips and you’ll have the best part of your awards entry written, checked and ready to go. The only thing left to do is click submit.

How does it feel to win?
Winning an award is an incredible feeling. You’ve already got to the point of being a finalist, and you’re sat in a room full of like-minded, successful businesswomen. Then, your name is called, does everything go quiet, do you cry, jump in the air, or do something completely unexpected?
We spoke to previous winner Karen Sutton who told us all about her win in the Southern England Business Women of the Year category at last year’s event.
“Recognising everyone in there and acknowledging that running a business is hard, it is hard and yes what you’re achieving is amazing but it’s not always easy and I just think that the support and camaraderie of all the women in there is just absolutely fantastic.”
